Law Associate for Health Sciences Department (Intellectual Property)

Our client is one of the 50 largest law firms in the country, with offices in eight of the 10 largest U.S. markets. The firm supports some of the country's biggest industry sectors, including health sciences, energy, real estate, insurance, finance, private equity, construction, and technology. 

The New York office is seeking an associate with 3 or more years of experience to join its Intellectual Property practice.  
Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, immunology, cell biology, virology, microbiology, genetics, pharmacology, or neuroscience. Candidates must have outstanding research and analytical skills, strong work ethic, maturity, and good communication skills. Top candidates will display excellent legal, technical, and scientific knowledge of the life science field and have experience in patent preparation, prosecution, and counseling in a wide range of life sciences technology areas including for example large molecule pharmaceuticals, antibodies, vaccines, immunology, formulations, microbiology, and biochemistry. Experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications.  

To be considered, a candidate must be registered and in good standing to practice before the USPTO, and a member in good standing of the NY State Bar.

DUTIES
Work as an Associate on the Life Sciences team. Primary responsibilities will include: 
• developing and implementing patent filing strategies
• preparing patent applications 
• analyzing office actions and preparing responses 
• conducting interviews with Patent Office examiners and other patent prosecution-related activity
• assisting in patent and other litigation, and supporting intellectual property licensing and other
transactions
• writing scientific and technical documents in clear concise English
• managing a docket with multiple clients and deadlines
• conducting legal and technical research and analysis using all available resources in support of various
patent-related matters
• supervising and mentoring other Associates and Patent Agents on related work assignments

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Must be registered with USPTO
• 3 years of patent prosecution experience
• 3 years of experience working in a law firm environment, or equivalent experience in a corporate setting
• 3 years of patent application drafting experience
• 3 years of experience working with limited supervision utilizing time management skills
• 3 years of experience working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
